Shimba Hills Lodge

Shimba Hills Lodge Situated in the cool rainforest of the Shimba Hills, only a short way inland from the South Coast of Kenya, lies the Shimba Rainforest Lodge. An ancient forest grows on the uprising of the volcanic Shimba Hills and is home to elephant, warthog, buffalo and several species of antelope including rare sable. The altitude and the damp atmosphere also attract countless butterflies and birds around the grassy hills and on the edges of the forest.

Shimba Rainforest Lodge is a superb wooden structure, built overlooking a waterhole, and accessed by a ramp through unique flora. A wooden walkway leads to a viewing platform for the waterhole, where the peace of the surroundings can be best appreciated. The rooms are comfortable with small verandahs overlooking the waterhole. Showers and toilets lie adjacent to all rooms. The dining room is open air, and evening dining is enhanced by the sounds of bullfrogs and the rasp of cicadas. There is a pleasant bar and each floor has a public viewing area across the waterhole.
